1) I just got your plate custom
made.
Can I
go ahead and register this for my car?
No, you can not register these plates,
they are for novelty use only. If you
want a
real Alberta license plate to register, you must order it thru the
government or approved ministry of transportation office our plates are
not
real
and for souvenir proposes.
2) The government plans to
change the license plate design..
How will I be
affected?
As of
Feb 2009, our Alberta government has made it clear that they will not
be
redesigning the existing license plate due to the cost involved.
So
instead of a redesigning Alberta plate plans and waste tax payers money,
they
plan to add an additional letter
to the existing style plates making it 4
letters and 3 numbers to continue the
demand of registered plates in Alberta.
Either way if our government decides
to change this in the future, our plates
are novelty/souvenir plates, and
this shouldn't effect you in anyway in the
future and at later time we
will consider redesigning our plates if required.
3) Are these novelty/souvenir plate illegal to
use?
These plates are not illegal if used
according to the law of your province of
residence. In Alberta you can use any plate you want on the front of
your
vehicle.
By-law you are not required to have front plates on passenger
vehicles, (exceptions apply to commercial vehicles requiring REAL
registered
Alberta
Plates, this law passed by the Alberta government.
The design of these novelty plates has been approved by the Alberta
Government, Public Affairs Bureau.
4) Are these plates
sponsored/endorsed by the Alberta government?
These novelty plates are not sponsored or
endorsed by any government in
Canada,
these novelty plates are not real and can NOT be registered
anywhere in this world ever they are novelty and gift items.
5) Where can I
mount my custom plate?
In Alberta, you can legally mount our
novelty plates on the front of the
passenger vehicle because, our government passed a law that front plates
are not
required on passenger vehicles, only certain commercial vehicles it is
required both front &
back plates matching. You can not also place these on
your
back window, as it is illegal to have to different plates on the back of
your
vehicle.
6) Are these plates 3
dimensional?
Yes these plates are 3D or 3 dimensional,
where the letters are raised like a
real
license plate.
7) Are these custom plates made
from aluminum/metal?
Yes & No,
Effective August 1st 2011 we now carry two types of novelty
plates,
Our original plate since 2008 is a form of
plastic called styrene that is
durable from all weather conditions in Alberta, the
plate
is then
assembled with a metal frame and matching metal license plate
screws,
clear transparent shield and a thick polyplate backing for additional
support.. The reason this plate is made from styrene is that it allows
us to
form
the letters by raising it without having to invest thousand on a
stamping
machine
like the government has to make the real license plate, As well our
plates
have to look a bit different then the real plate, so that people can
distinguish between a real license plate and a fake plate.
Our new plates effective August 2011 is made from aluminum metal, these
are
printed plates all custom made, but the letters are not raised. These
are
a bit
lower in price as it takes less time to make them and less overhead cost
on the
equipment and time used. Wit these plates we offer regular auto
plates
in 6"x12", motorcycle plate in 4"x7" and bicycle plates in 3"x6"
8) Can I get a 3 letter & 3
number plate made to simulate a real plate?
Our policy does not allow a 3 letter & 3
number plates made to simulate a
real
Alberta plate. If you are the legal owner of the plate, you can go back
to the
registrar and have another plate made. Our novelty plates are for
funny
sayings, to promote business advertising, or by putting letters and
numbers
in combination to form words.
9) Can I mount my custom plate
on the front of the car?
Yes you can in Alberta, other
provinces/states you will have to check
according to there rules and laws.
10) Can I mount my custom plate on
the back of the car?
You can not mount the novelty plate
on the back of the car where your
legally registered plate must be mounted and visible.
11) Can I place my custom plate on
the window?
Yes you can, we do have "tag ups"
they are specially made to hold your
novelty plate out of the back window held by 2 suction cups, these tag
ups
can also be used on any window like an RV, office window, or retail
outlet.
There are some regulations and each province is different so you will
have to
check if its okay in your area, but some cities and provinces don't
allow you
to display two or more plates. You will have to check with your local
ministry of transportation rules and regulations with placing novelty
license
plates on your rear window of the vehicle.
12) Will my custom plate get damaged
if placed on the front of my car?
I believe anything you put on the
front of the car including your bumper
has a risk of getting damage. Our novelty plates are not bullet proof.
This
being said, our plates are made from high quality styrene & polyethylene
which are durable to sustain all sever weather and driving conditions in
Alberta including small rocks/pebbles in the winter, all of our
novelty plates come with clear shields to protect your novelty plate
from
damage and makes it easy to clean and maintain the novelty plate.
13) My custom plate is dirty, how
can I maintain/clean it?
All of our novelty plates are
protected by a clear shield placed in front of the
custom made novelty plate. Take a wet cloth and wipe it down with some
mild soap and water, you may also use a pressure washer from car wash
depot's, but don't recommend full pressure wash directly at the plate,
simple
wipe should do the same cleaning.
14) I do not have any front license
plate brackets on my car to mount my plate.
Most cars bought new in Alberta do
not have the front license plate brackets,
but you can add an after market license plate holder or go to the
dealership
of the make of the car and have them install one. If you decide to go
with an
after market bracket, if you check your front bumper you will notice on
most
cars they have indents for where the license plate bracket would go,
some
manufactures like Hyundai have multiple dent spaced evenly as the same
model cars are sold in Europe and other countries where they use a
different
type plate and not standard 6x12 used in North America, some models
require mounting bracket
kit.
15) I want to put foul
language/inappropriate words on my custom plate is there
any restrictions?
We do not have any restrictions
with language or inappropriate words, we
live in a free country that being said, if we feel that your custom
plate is
offensive to a degree of extreme hatred towards groups, race, colour
etc. we
will deny the novelty plate made. We have never denied a novelty plate,
but
something for you to think about that anything you may put on your car
that
is offensive to others may result in damaging your vehicle
(keying, dents, broken window etc.), think of something more creative.
We
will not be held liable for damages done to your vehicle.
I have a normal day time job
I go to Monday - Friday therefore the best time
to reach me is after working hours as this novelty plates I only work at
shows mostly on weekends, this is a family assisted hobby and last year
alone we did over 30 auto shows in Alberta, including the two main shows
in
Calgary World of Wheels and Powerama in Edmonton. Not all auto shows
have hydro, where we can make the plates on the spot in 1 hour as
advertised while you wait like we did at Powerama and World of Wheels.
Outdoor shows with no
hydro were arranged for delivery or pick up at the
time of the order.
17) Why did
you start this business of customized novelty plates?
Well I started this novelty plate
as a hobby which has turned out to be a full
time second job. I love what I do, and has been a fun awesome job
meeting
all sorts of people like myself who enjoy customized vanity plates. Some
of
you might remember the TV show Bumper Stumpers in the late 80's, which
inspired me when I was younger and to this day to figure out customized
plates when I do come across them. I wanted to bring an affordable
product
out to the market that everyone can share with me that has
a
meaning to each individual for what ever reason they want a customized
novelty plate. Now even more living in the 21st century more of us have
been
effected to the internet world of abbreviations or text messaging which
has
made vanity plates allot more fun and creative.
18) I went to The General Store in West Edmonton Mall,
they appear closed!
Yes we had a display set up at The General Store in West Edmonton Mall
to
make local purchases easier year round. Unfortunately
The
General Store
announced in Jan 2009 that due to the economy they had no
choice to close all 15+ stores across Canada, In risk of bankruptcy we
felt
that we could not take the chance of leaving our stock at the store
while
they cleared up their financial matters.
CRE8 UR PL8 was also on Global TV
in
January 2009 in regards to the store closures, this posting
can
be found
on youtube
below.
19) Is there any retail location I
can go and place my order from in Alberta?
Click here for store locations. Since the closure of The General Store, we
are currently actively
seeking retailers who provide automotive related
products/service in Alberta as well as Gift Shops, Craft Stores etc. If you
have a retail outlet
or provide a business service related to automotives
please contact
us by phone at 1-888-92-UR-PL8 or 1-888-928-7758 or
780-628-6859 or email from our contact
us page and provide with more
information about your location and products/service you
provide.
Effective August 1st 2011, we now carry both motorcycle and bicycle
plates,
these plates are custom made to any picture, logo or text, or we can
make
our popular Alberta novelty plate with your own saying. Please note these
are
aluminum plates and the letters or pictures are not raised or stamped.
